Per 2018 International Building Code: “No person shall begin work without a valid building permit. It is unlawful for anyone to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert, demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any building or land or cause or permit the same to be done.”
Residential Projects
To apply for a Building Permit, please submit the following required documents:
- Building Permit Application
- Building Permit Application Fee – Residential Fee of $50.00 may be paid online or by cash/check at Stroud Township Municipal Building
- Note: The Building Permit Application will not be processed until the application fee is paid to Stroud Township. The Building Permit Application Fee is non-refundable, but it will be applied towards the plan review fee if Building Permit is approved.
- 2 sets of plans (detailing all of the materials, sizes and their specification used in your project). For examples of drawings or helpful templates, please click here.
- Note: Certain projects may require sealed construction plans. If this requirement applies to your project, you will be notified after the initial plan review.
- Certificate of Insurance (COI) with Stroud Township listed as the Certificate Holder. The COI must reflect general liability and workers’ compensation policies. If your COI does not reflect an active workers’ compensation policy, a signed affidavit must be submitted by the contractor.
- Zoning approval –
- Note: Not all projects that require a Building Permit, also require zoning approval. If you are unsure if your project requires a zoning approval, please contact Zoning Department and/or visit the Zoning Department’s Page for more information about how to apply for a Zoning Permit.

- 2 sets of sealed construction plans. The plans must be sealed by an engineer or architect licensed in Pennsylvania.
- Certificate of Insurance (COI) with Stroud Township listed as the Certificate Holder. The COI must reflect active policies for general liability and workers’ compensation policies. If your COI does not reflect an active workers’ compensation policy, a signed affidavit must be submitted by the contractor.
- Zoning approval –
